ADRIAN GUZMAN:
I'm Adrian Guzman.
I am principally interested in design and cybernetics. This doesn't mean something high-tech (although it does tend to have a lot of application there), but it simply refers to the interactions of complex systems.
This can mean something like a biological system (a man riding a horse), a financial system (purchasing and selling a stock), or an individual interacting with a computer (like you right now!). Lots of these systems involve non-linear responses and feedback loops.
This manifests in my commitment to autodidactism. I believe that top-down education structures seldom lead to innovation or true, lasting education. Instead, institutionalized knowledge is much better at delivering honors and taking credit. I am human, and I do desire independence and recognition, although I desire them on my own terms. I also believe that following one's own passion and curiosity is the route with the highest likelihood toward non-linear response (i.e., creating lasting change in the field of choice).
I've held a wide variety of jobs in my short life. I worked as a semi-conductor manufacturing technician, a landscaper, and an English teacher. I've held a litany of silly entry level minimum wage jobs as well. Throughout that entire time, however, my dedication toward my passions never wavered.
My interest in design largely comes from the same place that my intellectual interests come from. I want everything that I create to be a possible aid toward improving the lives of those who interact with it. I make music. I play a few instruments (keys, bass, and drums), but I mostly sample records. Successfully repurposing audio recordings of forgotten, dead instrumentalists and either making them sound like "me", or playing alongside them, is the sensation closest to divinity that I've ever felt.
Much of the visual art that I create is constructed in the same way - as a collage, or found sculpture. These are just art terms that I've discovered later in life. I was doing these things intuitively before I had a vocabulary to speak about them.
Again, with all of that, I love interacting with the outside world and seeing what other humans have to say about my art and presence. If you have any comments, or desire to work with me (or hire me to work with you,) I would love to hear from you. My contact information is listed below.
If you would like to sign up for infrequent updates, I have added my stylized substack subscription here. You'll see my writings, and Substack allows me to hold onto your e-mail, for when all of this goes down.
